The pocess of dividing a compound subject into homogenous yet mutually exclusive singular concepts. Facet analysis is used to produce standard terms and define their relationships with one another, to be used in subject classification. The resulting facets are commonly used to group controlled vocabulary terms and further define their meaning and role.
